I bought this device a couple of months ago for the purpose of copying my many VHS tapes, both NTSC and PAL. What I quickly noticed was that the device worked perfectly well with PAL tapes, but whenever tried to record NTSC tapes the recordings would come out in black and white. I did fiddle with the various settings to see if the problem was there, but nothing worked. Yes, I did switch between PAL and NTSC recording modes too.

Reaching Diamond tech support was a royal pain. First, there was no apparent phone support listed at their support page, so I had to register and submit a support request through their website. Two weeks on, I had still not received any sort of contact from the support people, so I went to their website. This time I managed to find their support phone number, cleverly hidden under the Corporate Info section, nowhere near the support pages. After waiting for about 20 minutes on hold I finally got to speak to someone. He told me he couldn't resolve my issue, but that he would talk to the head engineer of the tech department and get back to me. Fast forward another two weeks, and still no contact. I once again call, speak to the same technician, and he tells me the same story all over again. I finally gave up and now some 2.5 months since I bought the device I still have not been contacted by Diamond's support.

I had absolutely no problems installing the drivers and software on my Windows Vista Ultimate (32-bit) PC. The only issue I have run into is when I start up the device my color scheme reverts to Vista Basic because the program doesn't support that of Vista Ultimate.

In conclusion, this device creates high quality recordings, both video and sound wise. If you want a way to get your PAL tapes onto your PC, this is a great option, but don't hold your breath for NTSC. If you ever need to contact tech support, you would be better off asking the monkeys at your local zoo.
